Time to Winterize Your Pipes Again!
Imagine Coming
Home to This!
Today I did a cleaning for an aging woman whose husband had just passed away around the Holidays. I would hate to be in that position; purchasing gifts for the kids and grandchildren together and then planing a funeral. The poor woman is still grieving, but ready to move on; she is preparing to sell the house and move.
When I arrived there was a huge Block of ice formed from the faucet outside were the garden hoses connected to a manifold. It was a good thing that we haven't had one or two of those nights in the teens or that exposed pipe in the "drafty & uninsulated" basement laundry room would have burst and flooded the rest of the finished basement adding to her troubles.
The water hadn't been turned off yet from the inside and winterized. She was clueless as to what needed to be done, "My husband had always taken care of these type of things" was what she told me in response to my informing her of what needed to be done.
When if finished my work, all it took was five minutes for me to explain what needed to be done and then escort her downstairs while I searched for the Main Water Valve and Shut-Off Valve for the hose bib. I then placed my water tags on them and explained to her how to winterize the valve and did it for her as well as telling her that if she ever had a water leak in the house that she needed to turn off the Main Water Valve and then drain all the water from one of the faucets in the basement to minimize the damage from the water leak.
Please, if anyone you know has recently lost their spouse or is just aging or getting forgetful, check on them. Not just to make sure that they have winterized their pipes, but give them a had however you can; shovel their walkways when it snows, help them with their trash, whatever you can.
It's good for for all of us!

Fraudulent Representation
For way too long I have been seeing other way too many other carpet cleaning companies displaying the “GREEN SEAL™” Fraudulently representing themselves as members in good standingas Certified Firms. I know this because I did some research and the cost for getting a company certified by “GREEN SEAL” is $3000 for the first year and $1200.00 every year there after for the smallest of firms doing under $200,000.00 in green services. Further, there are only a hand full of cleaners, other than several larger franchises, that area certified and those are jantorial companies that provide government services.
Several Years ago, My Carpet Cleaning Service, www.MCC-Service.com, started looking into Green Cleaning, I wasn’t too impressed, though it was green, it wasn’t that clean. However, I still carried Green Label products as well as my Hypo-Allergenic line of products. I would use the green when possible, but conventional cleaning products whenever the outcome of the cleaning was questionable
On a side note, let’s not fool ourselves most premium carpet cleaning products used by true professionals are
1. Low V.O.C.
2. Non Toxic
3. Child Safe
4. Pet Safe
5. Phosphate Free
Most important of all, I practiced Green procedures;
1. Buying products in bulk; less use of resources and waist
2. Recycling beverage and product containers at the shop instead of throwing away at the customer’s home r jobsite
3. Pre-vacuuming; resulting in using less pre-sprays,
4. Mechanical brushing; resulting in using less Water and Rinsing agent and Gas/ Electricity running the extraction equipment
5. Finally, we have Been Rinsing with Free Rinsing Green Products for quite a while Whenever Possible!
But now, they have put the Clean in Green Cleaning and I am starting to become a true believer! More and more cleaners, such as me are going greener and greener. I have been trying out a product and I am about to start the use of the all Green “GREEN SEAL™” product in my new multi-location accounts because of the health concerns of the elderly tenets in the buildings.
And soon, I will be able to post a “GREEN SEAL” LOGO, but not the fraudulent one that these other carpet cleaners have been displaying for years. Green Seal has just started a new program for companies like mine that are registered with GREEN SEAL that use Certified GREEN SEAL Products to show their Professionalism and shared concern for the environment.
